Chris Mendoza was born in the Bronx, New York and grew up in the Bay Area suburb of Vallejo, California. He sat around drawing in most rooms of the house as a kid thanks to an older brother who got him interested in comic books. His First drawing recollection was a Doodle of a helicopter in first or second grade, and he has yet to ride in a real helicopter.
He liked the handle HeyOjisan since it means uncle and old man in Japanese. Some of the aches and pains are becoming constant reminders of life in his 40s, but is glad to have the life experiences to show for it. He only writes about himself in third person when attempting his own biography for websites created during a pandemic and yet another dangerous fire season in california.
